Welcome to the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), a hub of knowledge, innovation, and transformation in Tanzania. As the Vice Chancellor of SUA, it is my distinct pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all visitors, stakeholders, and partners interested in the remarkable journey we are embarking upon through the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project.
SUA takes immense pride in being a key participant in the HEET project, a visionary endeavor undertaken in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania and the World Bank. This ambitious five-year venture, valued at a significant $425 million (equivalent to Sh972 billion), is poised to reshape the landscape of higher education in our nation.
At the heart of the HEET project lies a noble aspiration – to fortify the synergy between education and economic development. We are resolute in our commitment to nurturing a learning environment that is not only aligned with the evolving demands of the labor market but also equipped to propel our graduates toward a future of excellence and opportunity.
SUA has been entrusted with a substantial allocation of Sh73.6 billion, dedicated to an array of transformative initiatives. These resources are set to catalyze the construction and enhancement of vital infrastructure, the refinement of curricula to match industry needs, the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment, and comprehensive professional development for our dedicated staff.
A cornerstone of the HEET project is the construction of 11 new buildings across our campuses. In the Edward Moringe Campus, we are proud to unveil plans for six new edifices, with an additional two destined for the Solomon Mahlangu Campus and three for the Mizengo Pinda Campus. These structures encompass a diverse range of facilities, including student hostels, cutting-edge laboratories, academic spaces, and spaces for fostering research and innovation.
The transformative impact of the HEET project is already evident through the expansion of the Mizengo Pinda Campus, where ongoing construction and renovation activities are shaping a conducive and dynamic atmosphere for learning and teaching. The commitment demonstrated thus far is underscored by the expenditure of 1.6 billion shillings dedicated to these crucial endeavors, a testament to our dedication and the collective vision we share.
I encourage you to explore this website to experience the depths of the HEET project – its goals, achievements, and the innovative spirit that drives us forward. Our website offers a window into the strides we are making to revolutionize higher education in Tanzania and foster economic growth that resonates for generations to come.
Thank you for visiting us!
